The National Directorate of Employment, NDE in partnership with the Member, House of Representatives for Guma/Makurdi Federal Constituency Sunday disbursed N2.5m worth of COVID-19 palliative items to 250 women and youths in the state.
Benue State Coordinator, NDE Musa Sadauki said the disbursement of 10,000 each to the beneficiaries is a practical demonstration of the effort of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the present management of NDE led by Dr. Nasir Mohammed. Ladan Argungu to cushion the scourge of the COVID – 19 pandemic on the Benue people through the provision of palliative by the House of Representatives member.
He reeled out some achievements of NDE in the state, stating that two months ago 230 women from the 23 local government areas of the State were empowered with 10,000 naira to start off. micro business.
The coordinator said that 50 women and Youths were selected and underwent training under the School On Wheel, SOW in collaboration with Makurdi local government area care taker chairman while another 690 youths and women have been trained in 23 local government areas in skills like wielding, fashion designing, shoe making, hair dressing and I CT.
He added a batch of 50 unemployed youths undertook a three months training in Special Agricultural Development Training Scheme, SADT in Poultry and cultivation of vegetables in Otukpo local government area.
The House of Representatives member for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency Hon. Benjamin Mzondu acknowledged the several initiatives of President Muhammad Buhari that has brought succor to Nigerians especially the Trader Moni amongst others.
He also, commended the Director General of NDE for living up expectation as well as the state coordinator for steering the affairs of the agency and urged for support of institutions especially government by all to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Hon. Mzondu appealed to the beneficiaries not to underestimate the little palliative measure given to them, noting that it is capable of transforming their lives.
While Mr. Francis Kwaghga,Head of Department Small Scale Enterprise also, urged the beneficiaries not to underrate days of small beginning.
