NBA honours legal luminaries

The leadership of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Gwagwalada branch on Monday bestowed merit awards on the three personalities during its law week 2018 with the theme “Is True Federalism or Restructuring the Solution to Nigeria Political and Developmental Changes”.
The three awardees included; Hon. Abdu Aboki (Presiding Judge, Court of Appeal Abuja), Hon. Justice Adamu Abdu Kafarati (Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria) and Hon. Ibrahim Rufai Imam (Acting Grand Khadi Sharia Court of Appeal, FCT).
In an interview at the occasion, the Chairman of the Branch, Barrister D.A. Sulayman, said the merit awards were being conferred on the three personalities based on their outstanding contributions in the society.
He employed the lawyers in Gwagwalada NBA Branch (Eagle Bar) to deem it necessary to fight corruption in the society for the benefit of Nigerians.
He said: “Lawyers are the role model to the people in the society as well the custodians of the society. So we must behave well”.
Sulayman, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for fighting corruption in the country, while urging the president to extend the corruption fight to his cabinet.
Commenting on the topic of the 2018 law week which tagged “Restructuring”, he said the theme was chosen due to some people who were clamoring for restructuring in this present democratic era in the country.
In his welcome address, the chairman organizing committee of the law week 2018, Barrister Ibrahim G. Haruna, said the law week was an annual event of the branch which reflects on the present national issues in Nigeria.
Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Justice Ishaq U. Bello, the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
commended the leadership of NBA Gwagwalada branch for the step being taken to hold this year’s law week.
On his part, the president of Nigerian Bar Association, A.B. Muhmoud (SAN) said he would continue to maintain cordial relationship with the officials of Gwagwalada NBA branch.
On his goodwill message, the presiding judge, FCT High Court, Gwagwalada Judicial Division, Justice Mwada Balami, pledged to support the Gwagwalada NBA Branch whenever the need arises.
Meanwhile, the keynote speaker of the occasion, Mr. Festus Keyamo who was represented at the event delivered the topic of the law week 2018.
