The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Niger state chapter, has elected Comrade Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi as its new chairman from Zone ‘A’ as well as other executives to run the affairs of the council for the next three years at both state and zonal levels.
Muregi, who took over from Comrade Hamisu Jankaro from Zone ‘ B’, at the expiration of his second tenure as the state chairman of the council had 125 votes to defeat his contender with 55 votes.
At the election, 19 posts were returned unopposed, while the position of chairman was the one heatedly contested for by Comrade Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi and Abdullahi Mohammed of which, the former emerged victorious.
Other executives elected include the deputy chairman, Adamu Gideon, General Secretary; Iliyasu Isah Jikuchi, Treasurer; Bawa Musa as Financial Secretary, Muhammad Hassan Isah and Kabir Aliyu as PRO among others.
The Returning Officer from the Niger State Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) Sa’idu Mohammed Kala, while declaring the results of the election said Comrade Muregi polled 125 votes to beat his opponent Mohammed who scored 55 votes, while 5 were invalid.
Earlier, while delivering his valedictory speech, the former state chairman, Alhaji Hamisu Jankaro noted that leading the youth was no doubt a great challenge, but that with the cooperation of members of his cabinet, he was able to surmount them.
