The Director, National Library of Nigeria (NLN), Malam H.A. Jato has decried the reading culture in the country.
Jato, who decried the dearth of reading culture, in a statement issued yesterday by the NLN, further called on Nigerians to imbibe the culture of reading so as to promote the image of the country.
“As the world is moving towards the knowledge-based economy; the National library as the nation’s apex intellectual memory and data bank of learning, would continue to promote reading culture in Nigeria, in continuation of the pet project: ‘Bring Back the Book’ by President Goodluck Jonathan.”
“The National library will always be in the vanguard to rejuvenate, inculcate and inspire Nigerians to read more regularly in line with the vision statement of building an informed and enlightened society”.
He added that the readership promotion campaign, organised by Kwara state branch of the library, was aimed at educating children, who are the future leaders of the country.
