Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has refuted a report that he said NASS was to blame for the importation of luxury cars into the country.
The Peoples Daily had in a story captioned ‘Minister blames NASS for importation of luxury cars’ reported Dr. Onu as saying that, the National Assembly was to blame for the importation of foreign luxury cars into the country.
Our reporter reported the Director General of the National Centre for Technology Management , NACETEM, Professor Okechukwu who represented the minister at the International Conference on Research and Innovation with Exhibition held in Kaduna recently as stating the ministers position.
However, the minister in a statement signed by a Deputy Director(Press) in the ministry dated 19th October, 2017 and made available to the Peoples Daily, dissociated himself from the statement.
While he acknowledged that the Director General of NACETEM represented him, Dr. Ogbonnaya at the event, he was not mandated to make such a statement allegedly accredited to him.
The statement said, “The Homourable Minister has been working with the National Assembly, particularly the Committee on Science and Technology of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in promoting Made-in-Nigeria goods, including but not limited to vehicles “ The Honourable Minister has noted the zeal and commitment of the National Assembly members towards this project “The Peoples Daily, the entire media and the general public are hereby urged to discountenance the report”
