Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barr Mohammad Abdullahi, has confirmed his decision to drop his Senatorial ambition.
Barr Abdullahi had thrown his hat in the ring to challenge the current Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial zone, Abdullahi Adamu, for the ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC).
Barr Abdullahi was defeated in 2015 by Hon Jonathan Gaza in his bid to represent Kokona, Keffi and Karu federal constituency in the House of Representatives.
The confirmation followed a facebook post indicating that Barr Abdullahi had dropped his ambition following the intervention of his Principal, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
The facebook statement signed by Pastor Benjamin Chindo Baka, Director General, ma4sen 2019, said the decision was in the interest of the party and the state.
It said: “Consequent upon the meeting called at the instance of His Excellency, Umaru Tanko Almakura, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa state, between Senator Abdullallahi Adamu and Barr Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi today Saturday 31/3/2018 at the VIP Guest House Keffi, the Executive Governor has prevailed on Barr Mohammed Abdullahi to withdraw from Senatorial race in the Western zone in the corporate interest of the State and Party. Barr Mohammed Abdullahi, as a loyal servant of Nasarawa State Government and party faithful humbly and respectfully yielded to the entreaties of his principal and has without prejudice stepped down from the contest.”
Thanking his followers and party organs for their support and solidarity, it said the decision was based on the need to respect leaders and those in position of authorities.
When contacted for confirmation, Barr Abdullahi said the facebook post was true; and that he believed Gov Al-Makura was someone who always took decision with the best interest of the state at heart.
He said: “I remain loyal to Gov Al-Makura and loyalty demands that I don’t question his judgment; especially when you consider the Governor’s pedigree and focus on always acting with the best of intentions and the best interest of the State.
“I have accordingly stepped down in the overall interest of the state and the party.”
