From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia
Nasarawa State chairman, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Alhaji Umaru Ahmad Ebenya has advocated for the need for government at all levels to take into cognisance teachers’ of primary aand secondary school welfare packages in the country.
The state PTA who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lafia, observed that if government prioritises the welfare of teachers, the standard of education will also improve and that would equally add value to the system.
According to him, “I call on the state government to improve the living standard of teachers. If government value teachers through giving them adequate welfare it will boost their morale generally. Imagine teachers leaving their profession today to other disciplines. Why? Because there is no incentives.”
“Pay teachers regularly. Give them loans. Provide houses for them. Create enabling environment for them to feel at home as stakeholders in the system. I assure you that the education system will improve” Ebenya added
Ebenya also maintained that education secretaries position should base on seniority and not on political appointment as according to him “This has contributed to the deteriorating nature of our education system in the country.”
