Ahead of the local government councils election, the election committee yesterday began screening exercise of aspirants across the 13 local government councils of the state.
Peoples Daily gathered that about 54 aspirants are contesting for chairmanship, and 400 aspirants for councilor seats respectively who are all from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It could be recalled that, other political parties in the state vowed not to participate in the local government councils elections, as the alleged that the “Process” would be full of marginalization by the ruling APC in the State.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen at the Taal Conference Hotel, Lafia, venue of the exercise, the chairman of the screening committee, Alhaji Musa Dan’azumi said the exercise, which will last for three days, started in a good footing and assured of its completion in a peaceful atmosphere.
According to him: “So far so good. The conduct is going smoothly. We will ensure that we cover the exercise within the time frame.”
The chairman added that nobody has been found wanting since the beginning of the screening; adding that the committee adhered strictly to the party’s guideline.
“We work with the party’s requirements. We conduct the exercise in line with the rules and regulations given to us. No preferential treatment,” he maintained.
Alhaji Musa further appealed to the contestants to embrace the spirit of togetherness, as well as cultivate the spirit of reconciliation even during and after the election.
