The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on Governor Tanko Almakura to immortalize the late ex-governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma to name one of the structures after him in the state.
Speaker of the House Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, made the call yesterday after Alhaji Mohammed Okpede (PDP-Doma North) moved a motion on the need for the state government to immortalize Akwe-Doma
during the House proceeding in Lafia the state capital.
Balarabe Abdullahi said that the assembly’s call was based on the achievements recorded by the late Akwe Doma in the development of the state and Nigeria at large.
The Speaker who appreciated Governor Tanko Almakura for his efforts towards ensuring the success of the burial of the late former governor.
According to him, “The late Akwe Doma had contributed positively to the development of the state. He was a onetime Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor in the then Plateau and the second democratically elected governor of the state, a technocrat, administrator among others”.
“As one of the founding fathers of the state, he had also contributed immensely especially in the area of promotion of peace, unity and development”.
“It was in view of this that, we are calling on his Excellency, Governor Tanko Almakura to immortalize the late governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma by naming one of the structures, after him so that he will be remembered by all”. he maintained
Balarabe Abdullahi also applauded the stakeholders within and outside the state for their efforts and condolences during the burial rite of the late governor.
