Nasarawa govt distributes relief materials to flood victims

Nasarawa State government yesterday distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to the recent flood victims in the state in order to cushion their hardship.
Performing the distribution in Lafia, the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule said that government and his administration deemed it pertinent to effect the distribution in order to mitigate the bitter experiences encountered by the flood victims in the affected areas.
According to him, “Nasarawa is one of the states in the country known to be affected by flood and other environmental disaster due the massive mining activities. Government has embarked on awareness to all the affected areas in Nasarawa State. The areas are Doma, Karu, Awe, Obi, Wamba amongst others.”
Engr. Sule added that the state government will continue to partner with the Federal Ministry of Environment and agencies in order to tackle the menace.
He called on the people to avoid dumping of refuse in water channels as well as avoid acts that could be hazardous to the environment.
“I urge the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency NASEMA to continue to synergise with traditional rulers and council chairmen so as to adopt methodology on how to tackle flood issues in the state,” Governor Sule maintained.
Also in his remark at the distribution venue, the Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, NASEMA , Barrister Zakari Zamani Alumaga said Nasarawa State is prone to all forms of disaster ranging from natural, humanitarian, Hunger, fire amongst others; adding that Nasarawa State had witnessed series of disasters in the past and now.
“I call on the relevant agencies from the federal, state and local governments to find lasting asolutions on how to manage disaster in the state,” He added.
