From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia

Nasarawa state First Lady Hajiya Salamatu Al-Makura has charged women in the state to actively participate in politic by vying for political offices.

Salamatu, who made a call on Thursday, at a forum with female politicians in Nasarawa, said the call had become pertinent, in view of the critical role women play in the society especially during this democratic era.

She maintained that during elections, women turn out more, were patient to vote and record more votes than their male counterpart.

Her words: “I would like therefore, to admonish all women in the state to take the bold step and be for political offices in any political party of your choice.

According to her, “In doing that, we must always work as a team; because if we are not united, we would not be able to achieve our objective.

“We must speak with one voice politically, by supporting women of proven integrity to contest for political positions available at all times to ensure our representation at all levels,” she noted.

Salamatu commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for making nomination form available free of charge to aspirants and urged women in the state to take advantage of the gesture.

She appealed to women in the state to always pray for peace in the state as no development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor.

“Let us continue to talk to our husbands and children on the need for peaceful co-existence. Let us dialogue, in order to resolve conflicts and not by taking up arms against one another,” she added.
