The management of the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) under the leadership of Dr Shaba Maikudi who was duly elected as the President of the association on the 12th of October, 2019 has filed a case against acclaimed President of NANTMP, Alhaji Ibrahim Dada Nakowa at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court of Justice Abuja.
The first hearing will commence on the 25th of January, 2021 being Monday in Abuja.
Maikudi made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen after the National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting which took place in Gwagwalada, pleading with the members across the country to remain calm.
He said: “The Board of Trustees set up Electoral Committee to conduct free, fair and credible election in 2019. However, the election was conducted on the 12th of October, 2019 in which I Dr Shaba Maikudi was constitutionally elected as the president of NANTMP in Nigeria. So, any other person who is claiming to be the president of the association is unconstitutional”.
According to Maikudi, the NANTMP was established in 2007 in accordance with the constitution, saying that the Article 7 of the constitution states that there are guidelines for contesting elective positions or posts.
He appealed to the Federal Ministry of Health especially the Department of Traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicine to stop delving into the affairs of NANTMP, warning the Department against causing pandemonium within the association.
He alleged that the election conducted by the Federal Ministry of Health to declare Alhaji Ibrahim Dada Nakowa as the President was illegal and unconstitutional, pointing out that the Ministry has no right to conduct an election in favour of any candidate as the Ministry is the Supervisory Body.
His words: “The Federal Ministry of Health should know that NANTMP is not a parastatal under the Ministry. So NANTMP is an independent body of the Ministry”.
He, therefore, advised the members of the association across the nation to come together to work for the progress of the association, noting that NANTMP has no faction.
“NANTMP is one. NANTMP has one constitution in Nigeria. NANTMP has one unified Board of Trustees”, Maikudi said.
Meanwhile, during the NEC meeting, the management of NANTMP has set up a planning committee.
