Abuja’ s sole representative in this year’s Nigeria Division One League Super 8 presseaon tournament, Nigeria Air Force Football Club, NAF FC, yesterday defeated their Delta State counterpart, Delta Stars in the opening match of Super 8.
NAF FC claimed the maximum three points in the first match of the 2017NLO-PIPULTVSUPER8 against Delta stars in a 3-2 five-goal thriller at the Muhammadu Dikko stadium Katsina.
The match kicked off by 8:25 am brought out the best in both teams as they aimed for the first three crucial points to boost their confidence and also stamp their authority in the competition.
NAF FC drew the first blood through a well-taken shot from Daniel Nuhu after taking on three Delta stars defenders before unleashing a hot shot that beat the Delta Stars goalkeeper for the opener.
The game became tighter as chances were had to come by as both teams.played with caution which led to the first half ending with Nuhu’s only goal separating the two.
At the restart, Delta Stars playmaker and captain Smith Asuquo scored a quick brace in the early minutes of the second half ralling his side to 2-1 lead. The mercurial midfielder scored in 52 minutes to.Kevel the score and in 57 minutes added the second to send his supporters into a rapturous ovation.
But NAF FC never gave up hope even as time petered out. As a military team that never give up, NAF FC came back stronger and leveled the score following 62 minutes intelligent free kick free kick from Sylvester Makama who restored parity to 2-2
Few minutes later, in 78 minutes, Kelvin Odenigbo scored the winning goal for NAF FC through a goal mouth scramble that handed the military team their first crucial three points.
NAF FC next match is against Gidano FC of Kano today by 4pm at the same venue while their last group match will be played against J. Atete by 8am.
Other results of the Day One opening matches are: J. Atete 1-1 Giodano. NAF FC 3-2 Delta Stars and Spartan FC 0-1 Aklosendi FC.
