Appeal has been made to the Niger state government to urgently set up a high powered committee to investigate the activities of the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government since inception within the last seven months.
Former Chairman Youth Council of Nigeria, Niger state chapter, Alhaji Muhammad Awaisu Wana, made the call while speaking to journalists yesterday in Minna.
Awaisu Wana emphasized the need for the state to also investigate the fifty million naira tenement rate which the Chairman allegedly collected from a private firm without following due process.
According to him “the activities of the fifteen councillors of Shiroro Local Government Council be investigated for allegedly collecting one hundred thousand naira each from tenement rent as bribe”.
He explained that the tenement rate collected by the Chairman belongs to Shiroro Local Government Council and he must account to the people how it was used.
He however gave Niger state government two weeks to set up committee to investigate the matter or proceed to EFCC for justice.
All efforts to contact the Chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Chukuba, through calls and text messages failed on deaf ears as there was no response from him before filling this report.
