Muslim women sensitize students on drug abuse

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, (FOMWAN) has embarked on a sensitization and awareness campaign to enlighten students of Al-Madinah International Islamic Academy on the dangers of drug abuse.
Speaking during the sensitization held in Kaduna yesterday, the Amira of FOMWAN, Hajiya Badiyya Sa’eed Sodangi, said drug abuse menace is raking havoc in Nigeria, and the youth being leaders of tomorrow has to be enlightened on the dangers posed to them drugs abuse.
In her lecture, the guest lecturer, Pharmacist Samira Umar, said abuse of illicit substances is very intoxicating and clause damages to the brain which can result to madness.
She advised the students that they should fear Allah and stay away from drugs. She said they should rather use their time studying their books and also meditate on the Qu’an daily, stressing that students should keep away from peer group who wants to lure into drugs abuse.
“Eat good food, engage yourselves in purposeful activities so that you don’t dream of engaging in drugs abuse, because the cost and pains of rehabilitating a drug addict is far more costlier,” she warn.
In her remarks, Chairperson of Health Committee of FOMWAN, Pharmacist Aisha Tukur, said FOMWAN’s members as mothers felt obliged to take the campaign to school to catch the young because, a country that her youth engages in drugs addiction is a useless country.
The Principal of the school, Mallam Mohammed Gashua, said the school has been waiting for such a day that FOMWAN would come to enlighten the students on the menace of drug abuse. He thanked the FOMWAN team for the lectures that showed students the dangers of drug abuse.
