Muslim Students Society (MSS)From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency and totally overhaul the nation’s security outfit and its system, having failed in their responsibility to the people of this country.

National President of the society, Malam AbdulAzeez Sirajudeen Folayemi, who made the disclosure in Minna, at the weekend, during the 60th anniversary lecture of MSSN for the North-Central zone, with the theme: ‘MSSN impact, problem and prospects’ stated that the authority should stop politicising the nation’s security situation and come up with a pro-active measures to make Nigeria a safe place to live.

Folayemi stated that recent events have shown that the nation’s security forces were not on top of situation with the twin explosions at Nyanya almost at the same arena despite the check points all over the place.

“A State of Emergency should be declared on the nation’s security outfit as it is evident that the insurgency has continued to beat their arsenals while the innocent masses continue to be the victims; we say there should be a total overhaul of the nation’s security system” he stated.

He noted that the millions of Muslim students in Nigeria and the Diaspora rejected the activities of the insurgency in its entirety and called on the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, deploy all its machinery towards ensuring that the 234 students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok are rescued, urging the nation to wear a mourning outlook and that all flags should flown at half-mast until the students are rescued.

Chairman of the occasion and Secretary-General of Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Prof. Ishaq Olayode urged the society to remain an indivisible forum capable of propagating the real Islamic teachings, in order to realize the objective of the society, even as he appealed to them to be hardworking in their studies and conduct themselves in a proper manner devoid of violence.

He noted that MSSN has since become the voice of Islam and the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria as he called on them to start organizing positive activities to brace up with present challenges confronting our society.

The event was witnessed by several clerics within the zone which included Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau and Abuja, FCT.
