The founder, 05 Initiative, who is also the wife of the Delta state Governor, Mrs Edith Okowa has paid over N3 433million bills for indigents patients at the Federal Medical Center ( FMC) Asaba at the weekend.
As part of her activities to mark the annual celebration of the world Charity Day, Mrs Okowa presented a cheque of N3.433 million naira to the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Victor Osiatuma, and explained why in the past four years she had consistently chosen to clear the bills of indigent patients at FMC, Asaba.
She said” We have vowed to always put smiles on the faces of many, especially indigent patients and by the special Grace of God, we will not relent in our effforts, and I have always chosen FMC, Asaba because that is the only hospital where patients are admitted without being asked to pay anything”
The wife of the Governor however explained that she had through her initiative encountered patients who after several months of being discharged still remained stranded at the hospital, adding that being alive does not mean one is the best, God has rather kept one alive and there is need to always thank God”
But the Chief Medical Director, Dr Victor Osiatuma who spoke to Journalists thanked the Delta First Lady, Mrs Edith Okowa for her magnanimity to pay off the bills for the indigent patients, adding”, the patients do not have silver or gold to give in return but they are continually offering their sincere prayers for her and her team”.
