Moro: Herdsmen, farmers clashes need proactive measures

From Uche Nnorom Makurdi

Former Minister of Interior Comrade Abba Moro has called for proactive measures to be taken by both federal and state governments to bring to end the crises between herdsmen and farmers in Benue
The former minister who made the call during an interview with newsmen in Ijigban, Ado local government area at the burial of mother of Francis Ottah Agbo, Chief Press Secretary to Bayelsa state Governor Seriake Dickson, noted that both governments could have done more to avert incidences of crisis between herdsmen and farmers.
He maintained that the primary responsibility of government at any level remains protection of lives and property.
“I always say that federal government should have shown more concern and empathy about the crisis and killings by herdsmen across the country.
“I also think the state government should have done more than mere rhetoric and cry of emotion on what should have been done or what should not have been done.
“Expression of sentiments will not secure our lives and property, we must take practical steps to curtail the situation,” he averred .
Moro said Benue from all ramification has contributed tremendously to this country called Nigeria and should be accorded her dues.
According to him, “in crisis times, Benue had contributed men and women to fight wars for Nigeria, even in food security crisis the state is known to be the food basket of Nigeria, whichever way you look at it, Benue has paid its dues.
He said the killings in the state were not in any way connected to the Benue Anti-Open Grazing Laws noting that the most unfortunate thing about the crisis was the lies going round.
