The chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Yahaya Isah, has appealed to the Federal Government to develop the livestock sector for the sake of socio- economic growth of the country.
He noted that livestock sector was one of the sources of our economy during and after pre-colonial era, calling on the Government to give the necessary attention to it.
He said: “When oil was discovered the money got from the livestock sector was used to develop the refineries in Nigeria”.
Isah, who made the appeal while speaking to newsmen during the inauguration of the newly elected officials in Gwagwalada, urging the herdsmen to live in peace with other tribes at their respective communities.
He also charged the newly inaugurated officials to co-operate with one another in order to move the association to a greater height.
He said the Miyetti Allah was an association that anybody could be part of it, while advising the cattle breeders as well as farmers to shun conflict.
He further called on both herdsmen and the officials of Miyetti Allah to work in hand with the traditional rulers as well as security agencies to keep peace in their domains.
The chairman, however, admonished members of the association as well as executives to remain committed to one Nigeria, pointing out that everybody has right to live in any part of the country.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Miyetti Allah has so far inaugurated about 92 officials across the four area councils which included Abaji, AMAC, Kwali and Gwagwalada respectively.
