The Miyetti -Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has dissociated the group from the recent killings in Plateau state.
Some reports, not by Peoples Daily had alleged the involvement of the association in the Plateau killings and accredited same to the Zonal Chairman of the group in the north-central region, Danladi Ciroma.
The said reports said Ciroma had described the attack on some communities in Plateau as an act of retaliation for the killing of 300 cows belonging to members of the group.
According to the National Secretary of MACBAN, Mr. Othman Ngelzarma, yesterday during an interview with journalists at the MACBAN headquarters in Abuja, said such statement is not from MACBAN.
The national secretary said, “it’s sad and unfortunate. We condemn the attack which left at least 100 dead and several others displaced.”
He added that, “it is a senseless killing we don’t support it we don’t like it , at this juncture I will also use this medium to sympathize and condole the family of loss ones as well as the government and people of Plateau State.”
Ngelzarma said; “The statement credited to our zonal chairman. We don’t know why he did that because the association has a code and conduct for the people who are supposed to talk to media, this happened always after the exco-meeting to decide who to talk to media.
We disassociate our selves from the statement from the zonal chairman.
We don’t know, but we consider it to be his personal opinion.”
“It is so wicked, it is condemnable. We don’t condone it, we do not like it. It is really unfortunate and we sympathise with the communities in that area,” Ngelzarma added.
Reacting to the allegation that some members of the association go about heavily armed, Ngelzarma noted that such persons should be treated as criminals.
He said: we enjoyed the peaceful administration of three years under the leadership of his Excellency the governor of Plateau state, Mr. Simon Lalong for the these three years the peace almost return to plateau but why some people trying to destabilize the administration.
