From Umar Dankano, Yola
Mixed reactions trails President Goodluck Jonathan’s request for the extension of State of Emergency for another six months in Adamawa state.
Most people who spoke to Peoples Daily in Yola Adamawa State Capital yesterday condemned the proposed extension and urged National Assembly not to grant the request.
The state Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Rev. Phineas Padio, said the request was bad and totally unnecessary, particularly in Adamawa.
“Adamawa is okay and even the Chief of Defense staff, not long ago said the military had succeeded in clearing Boko Haram in Adamawa.
“Why do they want to extend it if not for political reasons? Adamawa, in the first place, was included for political reasons”, Padio said.
Habibu Isa and Jonathan Simon, both drivers, also kicked against the extension, saying it was uncalled-for, with the level of security now being enjoyed in the state.
“The problem is not that serious in Adamawa to warrant a state of emergency. If you talk of the recent kidnap in Chibok, that has no link to Adamawa”, Isa said.
