The Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna has charged the Peace Corps of Nigeria to ensure that its daily operations fall within the mandate for which it was established.

The Minister gave the advice recently at Yola, the Adamawa State capital when a delegation of the Adamawa State Command led by its Commandant, First Lieutenant Bello Kassim paid him a courtesy visit.

While receiving some food items donated, the Minister expressed immense gratitude to the organization, adding that the goods will be judiciously distributed to alleviate the plight of the Internally Displaced Persons in the State who are victims of the nefarious activities of the insurgency group, Boko Haram.

He stated that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was more than before determined to address the plight of the IDPs necessitating the establishment of the Presidential Relief Committee. The Minister thus disclosed that the Committee would soon reach out to the victims.

He emphasized that Nigerians need peace at all times but more importantly now that campaign is in progress and election is by the corner, stressing that the Peace Corps of Nigeria should not be left out in the quest of guaranteeing peace and tranquillity during and after elections.

The Minister therefore charged the officers of the Corps to be disciplined and live by example in order not to disgrace the organization or bring its name to disrepute.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, First Lieutenant Bello Kassim thanked the Minister for finding time to receive them despite his busy schedule especially during this election period.

He also assured Mr. Haruna that his advice and words of wisdom will tenaciously be put into good use by members of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
