The Minister of youth and sports development, Mr. Sunday Dare has charged the U-20 male national team the Flying Eagles to pick the 2021 Africa Youth Championship ticket and represent the sub region in the tournament holding in Mauritania
Mr Dare asked the Ladan Bosso-led lads to do the nation proud by emerging champions the West Africa Football Union, WAFU competition in Cotonu which serves as Qualifying series.
Speaking during a visit to the team’s training in Abuja, Mr Dare said “The Flying Eagles have always made us proud, go there and make Nigerians proud. We believe you are young, talented and determined. Your coaches have impacted much on you, go there and come back victorious”
The team is expected to depart for the competition on Friday via Lagos. Nigeria plays her first match against Cote d’ Ivoire on Sunday. The young boys are paired in Group B of the tournament with Ghana and Ivory Coast and only the top team will qualify for the next years championship
The Flying Eagles of Nigeria claimed a record 7th Africa Youth Championship after beating host Senegal 1-0 in the 2015 edition.
