Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has blamed members of National Assembly for the importation of foreign luxurious vehicles into the country.
According to him, the lawmakers are frustrating policies against importation of luxurious vehicles into the country.
The minister represented by Director General , National Center for Technology Management , Professor Okechuwku Okuoma made the comment during the International Conference on Research and Innovation with Exhibition held in Kaduna.
He explained further that, there was a circular by government saying any company that is not manufacturing or assembling any vehicle in the county, government parastatals or agencies should not buy their product.
“But what we are seeing today is that it is still the people at the National Assembly making laws that are importing vehicles from outside the country.
“if you make a policy and not working on it that is what I called policy paralysis. You have a policy and you are not implementing it and that is the situation we find ourselves in this country,” he said.
In her remark, Director General Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, Professor Gloria Elemo lauded the composition of the organizers.
She added that the theme of the conference “ Diversification of Nigerian Economy Through Research and Innovation” is apt and most appropriate especially now under the leadership of the President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Our nation has depended too much on petrodollar to neglect of other sustainable revenue sources and I personally have always known that the petrodollar is not sustainable. No Nation can truly develop by depending on one revenue source; hence the need for diversification, “ She said.
