A stop and search embarked upon by the Nigerian Army yesterday in Mpape, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory caused a heavy traffic, with very difficult vehicular movement.
The search, according to sources was due to a terror alert issued in the early hours of yesterday.
Motorists who passed through the military check point said they have been there since 12pm.
“The stop and search of vehicles going and coming out of the city was very serious. Some of us didn’t know the reason but some said it was due to the terror alert”, one of the source said.
Another source said the military asked the motorist to come down and open their booth for inspection. “We have never seen this kind of traffic jam in the city; it has made many of us to be stranded looking like prisoners. It was also a difficul task for those of us going for business because we were held in the traffic for hours”.
Similarly, Mr. Moses Emmanuel who said coming to office was difficult because of the hold up, added that so many vehicles turned back and could not continue.
