Unknown people, suspected to be members of the Niger Delta militants on Friday invaded fishing communities in Akwa Ibom state, and raped housewives, Peoples Daily sources revealed.
The source who listed the communities to include; Ikot Etuk Idung, Ute Antai and Ute Bramah in Mbo Local Government Area of the state, said the militants also carted away valuables of their victims.
Speaking further on the incident, the source said, a boat operator said yesterday that, “the militants raped women and stole clothes, money and fish in the houses where they assaulted the women”.
According to him, some militants, have taken residences in Ikot Etuk Idung, and attacked both passengers’ and fishing boats.
“On Friday, the militants attacked a boat belonging to Ukap Peter, which was heading for Atabong”.
He further added that the militants remove the 200 HP outboard engine, and seized the boat.
Other items stolen according to him included; clothes, money, wrist watches and phone sets that were to be taken to Atabong for sale.
He said Mbo fishing communities have become war zone for the inhabitants following series of attacks.
