The management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has unveiled the procedure for enumeration of its customers.
The feat is expected to modulate and streamline operations across BEDC franchise States which are Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti for efficient service delivery.
The Managing Director of BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu, had signed agreement with five partners meter Access power (MAP) for a hitch-free exercise in compliance with the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Osibodu said this during an interactive session with newsmen at the Weekend in Benin City, Edo State Capital where she sued for cooperation of electricity users in the States.
She described the recent bill passed by Edo State House of Assembly, criminalising energy theft as a milestone.
She described the bill which prescribes two years imprisonment for any offender when it is signed into law.
She also denied any form of inducement of the State House of Assembly to perform their legislative duty.
The MD however decried upsurge in reported cases of vandalism of power equipment and alleged molestation of BEDC Staff in the line of duty, thereby reducing staff motivation and economic sabotage
According to her, “Edo recorded 39 cases of vandalism in the past three weeks”, alleging that that Delta and Ekiti States occupiee the second and third positions respectively on the chart.
She further listed critical areas BEDC had carryout its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) including training and employment generation.
