The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC),Keffi, Nasarawa state, Dr.Joshua Giyan, has tasked doctors and other health workers to ensure patients safety while discharging their duties in order to reduce harm and avoid unnecessary death due to negligence on the part of the health workers.
Giyan, who gave the charge yesterday while presenting a paper titled “Patient Safety, Every Patient Counts” at the 3-days Patient Safety Conference organized by the center in Keffi, Nasarawa state.
He implored doctors and other workers to always develop patients safety culture by avoiding mistakes/errors while discharging their duties; added that a lot of patients have been affected in the country over negligence on the part of the medical workers.
Giyan further admonished doctors and other health workers to always respect and protect the rights of patients in order to improve on their health status.
Giyan expressed the hope that after the programme, their staff will be motivated to be able to identify of the loop holes of patients safety that they have been missing in the past.
He reinstated his commitment to continue to key in to positive health programmes and policies that have direct bearing on the lives of the patients and staff of the center and Nigeria at large.
Also speaking, the Dean, Rova College of Health Care Executives, Abuja, Mr Emmanuel Abolo said that the conference would lay a foundation on the need for health worker to take in to cognizance patients safety while discharging their duties.
