The police have arraigned one Joseph Sunday, 29, of Sabon Wuse, Niger State, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding a man of N450, 000.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Umar Ango, told the court that on Dec. 20, 2013, Patrick Ojo, of Suite 30, Mangal Plaza, Garki, Abuja, reported the accused to the Wuse Zone 3, police station.
He told the court that Ojo had reported that sometime in May 2013, the accused and his friend now at large formed a common intention to defraud him.
According to Ango, they introduced themselves as mechanics to Ojo and promised to repair his Mercedes Benz bus.
He explained that the two friends collected the sum of N450, 000 from him to purchase a new engine for the bus.
Anigbo said that instead of using the money for the purpose for which it was meant, they converted it for their personal use.
He said that the accused was standing trial for the offences of criminal breach of trust, cheating and mischief contrary to sections 312, 322, and 327 of the Penal code respectively.
According to the Penal Code, Ojo will be convicted if found guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs. Folashade Oyekan, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two reliable sureties in like sum.
She said that the surety must also be resident within the jurisdiction of the court adding that one of the sureties must be a civil servant of not below GL 07.
