The main opposition party in Kwara state ,Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), and the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC) have accused each other of not being sensitive to the national problems over the celebration of May 29, democracy day.
PDP in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary,Chief Rex Olawoye titled “Kwara APC is insensitive,” PDP noted that the proposed celebration of the third year anniversary of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed as the Executive Governor of Kwara State was received with great shock.
The opposition party said the news of the celebration came to it with surprise, embarrassment and gross disappointment.
“Not only that the activities as planned is condemnable, but it is also vexatious owning to the mourning circumstances the nation has found itself which has further attracted sympathy even from friends of the nation and the entire international community.
“What does the APC in Kwara State wishes to achieve by staging a week-long activities marking three years of deceit, mal-administration and misappropriation of public funds orchestrated by numerous unrealistic Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU)?
“This has in addition showed that Kwara APC is highly ignorant and insensitive to the yearning and plights of the people of the state and Nigerians at large for the release of over 200 school girls in Borno State, multiple bomb blast in Nyanya, Abuja, Kano bomb attack, and the most recent attack on a market in Jos, Plateau State as well as the daily kidnapping and maiming of innocent souls in the different parts of the country.”
The party urged the state government to have a re-think over its proposed May celebration, stressing that instead, the state government should have a sober reflection over the unfortunate happenings in the nation.
But the Kwara state APC in its reaction through it Publicity Secretary,Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, argued against PDP opinion on celebration of May day stressing that it was necessary to sustain democracy in Nigeria.
Buhari said, the failure of PDP at the national level should not be to stop the celebration of democracy day and achievements of Governor Abdulfatah Ahned in the state.
“The anniversary will afford Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed the opportunity to render account of stewardship to the good people of Kwara State and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed will also inaugurate five General Hospitals in Offa, Ilorin, Omu-Aran, Share and Kaiama, Obo-Ayegunle Water Works, the Agunjin Electrification Project, Isanlu-Isin- Ijara-Isin road, Tsaragi market road in Edu Local Government, Oro-Ijomu-Oro road among other projects during the third year anniversary.
