Immediate past Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulazeez Yari, yesterday said he is open to genuine reconciliation with aggrieved party members, but warned that he will not be a party to any reconciliation that will mar the success of the party.
He specifically accused his arch political enemy in the State, Senator Kabiru Marafa, of having planted representatives in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state led by Governor Abubakar Bello Matawalle.
Yari who made these allegations after a closed door meeting with the Caretaker Committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mai Mala Buni, further alleged that Marafa has Commissioners, Secretary of State Government, Special Advisers and Special Assistants, among other political appointees in the PDP government in Zamfara.
Speaking specifically on his disposition to reconciliation with Senator Marafa in his state, the ex Governor said “Reconciliation to some extent will need result but every reconciliation that eventually mar the prospect of the party, there is no point. Reconciliation has somany definitions. We are ready to reconcile with everyone.
“But the situation where you are going to reconcile with somebody who already has members in the PDP government in the State, he has Secretary to the State Government, he has Commissioners, he has everyone there, then there is no point”.
“But if anyone is ready for reconciliation, we will know what is there because we have been doing this game since 1999 and by God’s grace we have seen the future of the party come 2023. We are ready for reconciliation and we are supporting the Acting Chairman for any reconciliation, ranging from Zamfara State to anywhere. We want our party to deliver”, he said.
He said the fight between himself and Marafa is not about legislature, but it is about the interest, adding that it is only when one has a strong party in the State that their interest will continue to build.
“The issue is not about the legislature but what you left at home. For instance, if you have a legislator, who is a Senator or House of Representatives Member and he has every opportunity in the gallery that you know to stand up and speak his mind where he is free to do so by law.
“But he knows, ranging from the screening down to primaries, down to secondary elections, how he got in, but when he comes to chamber, he forgot it. So can you transfer what he is doing here to down there? That can not be done. So therefore, we are in total reconciliation with everyone but the issue that came in is about interest”, he said.
He gave insight into what he is doing to ensure that APC wins back Zamfara in 2023, saying “I am going slow but steady and we are doing all of these. We have done it before and it is a trust since 1999 that is reposed on us. We make 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, 100% APC.”
When asked if the time frame given to the caretaker committee to reconcile the aggrieved party members should be extended given that it has limited time, Yari said he is not in a hurry to say anything, but only in a hurry to have a party that cannot be beaten in 2023 in.
