Many people were reportedly killed in two separate attacks launched by unidentified gunmen in Bawar Daji village under Anka local government area of Zamfara state between last Tuesday and yesterday (Wednesday).
A survivor of the attack simply identified as Lawali Kwashe accounted that, members of ‘Yansakai from the affected village have converged to hold a meeting with regards to ensuring calm environment for farming activities, just then a group of armed bandits emerged and opened fire on them leaving 12 dead instantly.
“The next day, it was terrible than before as the same dangerous group almost in double numbers on motorbikes surrounded us at the cemetery while we were busy burying our dead brothers, they also opened fire and killed almost everybody there except I and two other persons,” Lawali Kwashe said.
A resident of the affected village who spoke under anonymity said, the attack was reprisal as some members of the bandits were killed by the’Yansakai who foiled an attack attempted by the group sometimes ago.
Accosted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Command, DSP Shehu Muhammad confirmed the incident, saying only 3 people were killed and normalcy has returned to the village as Joint Task Force has forced the bandits down the bush with possible bullet wounds.
