Manu set to fortify victorious Flying Eagles

The Flying Eagles Coach Manu Garba, has disclosed he plans to fortify his team with new players ahead of the third round of the qualifying tournament of the August.

The Flying Eagles dumped Ngorongoro Heroes of Tanzania 6-1 on aggregate on Saturday to qualify in style for the third round, where they will face either Lesotho or Angola.

“We plan to see more players so as to have a stronger team,” said Manu, who along with his assistant Nduka Ugbade, watched yesterday’s Nigeria Premier League match between champions Kano Pillars and El Kanemi in Kaduna.

“But above all, we’re satisfied that we have qualified for the next round by winning as much as 6-1.”

He again warned his players to either shape up or they will be shipped out.

“We made a lot of mistakes against Tanzania and some of the players did not live up to the expectations and these are some of our key players,” he said.

“We had a better first half than second half. We tried to save some of our top players after the first half and to give some other players a chance to show what they can do.”

“And that was how Chidera Eze came in the score, while Kelechi (Iheanacho) would have scored at least two goals had he been more clinical in front of goal.”

He added:”Tanzania were not a bad side but they have to work on their finishing.

“And the goal we conceded was a cheeky one. First, there was the mistake by the defenders which led to the foul and the goalkeeper ought to have arranged his wall better because that free kick should not have beaten him.”

Manu has proposed a two-week recess for the team.

“I have proposed that we resume on June 7 either in Abuja or Kaduna,” he said.
