A business man in Minna identified as Nwakwa Martins yesterday committed suicide at his residence near a popular hotel in Tunga Minna, leaving behind his pregnant wife.
Our reporter gathered that the late business man owned a popular electronic shop along Old Airport Minna purportedly shoot himself in the stomach around 5:30 am.
It was learnt that the deceased at around 5am left his pregnant wife in a room and went to another room far from her to shoot himself, when the wife was deep asleep.
It was further gathered that the wife was not aware of her husband’s where about when she woke up around 7am and immediately raised alarm to her neighbors who told her that, they heard a gunshot in a
part of their compound earlier in the morning.
The neighbours and wife, it was further learnt went to the part of the house and discovered Mr Martins in his own pool of blood and was immediately rushed to Minna General Hospital where he gave up.
The neighbours reported the incident to Tudun wada Police Division Minna and the DPO CSP Francis Ekanem led a team of police to the residence of the deceased and recovered a pump action rifle that the deceased used at close range according to investigation..
The Police Public Relation Officer PPRO Oguche Adamu Richard confirmed that it was suspected that the man committed suicide but did not leave a note behind.
According to him, police findings at the residence revealed that there was no sign of external attack on the house, suggesting that it might be a suicide but noted that police is still investigating.
In another development, the Niger State Police Commissioner Mrs. Disare Nsirim has decorated 669 officers of the state police command recently promoted by the police authority.
The breakdown of those promoted showed that 237 police constables have been promoted to police corporal, 77 corporals to sergeants, 151 sergeants to inspectors, 180 inspectors to Assistant Superidendent11 ASP to DSP, 4 DSP to SP and 9 SP to CSP.
