An Abuja Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced one Mohammed Musa, 30, of Mabushi Village in Abuja, to 90 days in prison with hard labour.
The Magistrate, Mr. Emmanuel Iyana, handed down the sentence after Musa pleaded guilty to charges of house-breaking and theft.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Mr Yusuf Sani, had told the court that one Chike Ogbonna of Gishiri Village in Abuja reported the matter at the Mabushi Police Sation on Feb. 19.
Sani said the accused had broken into the complainant’s house and stolen some items. He listed the items stolen as two cooking pots, a DVD player, an electric blender, a StarTimes decoder and three remote control panels, all valued at N50,000.
The prosecutor said that a neighbour at Ogbonna’’s house, who sighted the accused while trying to flee with his loot, had apprehended him. He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 346 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
