From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia

A former Minister of Information Mr. Labaran Maku has decried the spate of killings of Tiv people in Nasarawa state and appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy more security operatives to the affected communities in order to bring an end to the callous destruction of lives and property.
Maku who made the appeal yesterday, while briefing journalists at his residence Aloshi Nasarawa local government council of the state; adding that President Buhari should give extra attention on the Tiv people in Nasarawa state as well as hold some leaders in the state accountable.
According to him; “I appeal to President Muhammadu to send soldiers that will enforce peace in the affected areas. The situation in Nasarawa state is beyond road block security checks. We need adequate law enforcers. The killings in Nasarawa state is like diabetes disease. Our people are suffering. Mr president is our last hope. Our people are farmers and cannot go to their farms now. Our children and women are roaming in the streets in search of shelter because of the crisis. We need peace in the state”.
Maku further admonished the state government to as a matter of urgency adopt pragmatic approach in order to stop the ugly incident; added that the first responsibility of a government is to protect his people by ensuring that they are alive and their property are in a safer condition.
The former minister also called on the security operatives in the state to always brief the government adequately on the happenings on ground as well as appealed to those involved in the killings to have a rethink and stop as according to him “It is unfortunate that the blood of people cannot continue to be flowing on daily basis”.
Maku however implored stakeholders in the state to preach peace as well as condemn in totality what is happening and urged the Tiv communities not to revenge.
“What is going on here is a massive war where people are driven away from their habitats. We were together right from Plateau state and never had an issue like this problem. Whichever group(s) involved should sheathe their sword”, Maku Maintained.
