It might no longer be smooth sail for Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi who is preparing to stage another comeback at the Nigerian Senate in 2015 where he represents the Northern Kaduna Senatorial District, because his close associate and former commissioner in his cabinet while he was governor of Kaduna state, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Ibrahim has indicated interest to challenge him at the polls.
Already, the development had caused a lot of excitement in the political circle in Kaduna and many prominent politicians in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have begun to encourage Nuhu Sani Ibrahim not to relent in his effort at slugging it out with his former boss, because “political offices are not exclusive preserves or birth rights of anybody.”
Makarfi, a two term governor of Kaduna State, was unopposed when the PDP gave him the nod for the Senate twice, and was said to have shown interest in succeeding himself at the hallowed chamber again, come 2015 as he was said to have picked the nomination form.
However, Nuhu Sani Ibrahim who was an active and superior official of the Makarfi Campaign organization during the governorship and senatorial campaigns, Chief of Staff while Makarfi held sway as governor of the state and later a commissioner of information in the Makarfi cabinet, had already concluded plans to vie for the Senate on the platform of the PDP where he would soon face his erstwhile boss at the primaries.
Keen watchers of political happenings in Kaduna North Senatorial District, predicted that Nuhu Sani Ibrahim might not find it difficult defeating the incumbent since he was Makarfi’s campaign coordinator for the Senate in 2007 and 2011 and might have known all the rubrics of coasting to victory.
“Top politicians in the PDP and from other parties across the North and beyond, have been calling on Nuhu Sani Ibrahim to runfor the Senate because they believe he will offer quality representation and take part in legislative processes that would lead to the birth of quality laws capable of adding value to the people of his constituency,” a staunch member of the PDP has said.
