Information obtained by Peoples Daily revealed that embattled former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, has indicated his willingness to appear before the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating his controversial readmission into the Federal Civil Service.
Maina was secretly readmitted and subsequently elevated in the federal civil service, a move that generated huge controversy which was condemned by Nigerians.
Following this development, the House of Representatives on October 24, 2017 passed a resolution mandating an Ad Hoc committee headed by Rep Aliyu Sani Madaki, (APC Kano), to investigate the circumstances surrounding his reinstatement.
Maina who held the position of Assistant Director until he was sacked in 2013, and his subsequent self imposed exile was reportedly, in clandestine circumstances reabsorbed and elevated to the position of Acting Director in the Federal Ministry of Interior, in September, 2017.
“Maina came back from self-exile and was posted to his former ministry (Interior) and given double promotion from Assistant Director to Acting Director”, Hon. Adams Jagaba told the House, while moving motion for the investigation.
When contacted, chairman of the committee Rep Aliyu Madaki confirmed that the former pension boss may likely appear before the committee next week.
Maina’s lawyer, Muhammad Sani Katu of the Justice Maman Nasir Chamber has reportedly made some initial representation to the committee, ahead of Maina’s expected appearance next week.
