The Easter celebration in Kaduna metropolis yesterday was a low one as it is devoid of pomp and pageantry associated with such festivities.
Investigations revealed that immediately many of the faithful returned from the Easter Sunday service they retired to their homes, rather than the usual sharing of food with neighbours and visitation.
Some families visited by this Reporter, where seen in groups relishing the available delicacies.
Many of them attributed the low key celebration to what they termed the present economic reality on ground.
Mr. Joseph Matthew, a civil servant in Kaduna state, said before the last working day they were expecting alert for their salaries; but uptill yesterday he has not got any alert.
“My brother even if I receive an alert there are lots of things on ground competing for the money. So, one has to be very careful how he spends money nowadays,” he quipped.
Similarly, Helen Katung, a federal civil servant said even though she has received her salary, the money have been channeled to other issues begging for attention.
However, there was massive security build up within the Kaduna metropolis to ensure that there was hitch free celebration.
At the popular NEPA Roundabout, Arewa House Junction, Sultan Road, Television Garrage and Sabon Tasha Park there are standby Patrol vehicles of Police and Civil Defence.
Meanwhile, a senatorial aspirant for Kaduna Central Senatorial zone, Hon Usman Ibrahim, called on the people of the Zone and the entire state to be united and renew their commitment to moral rejuvenation of the state.
Hon Ibrahim congratulated Nigerians for the Easter celebration and called on them to imbibed the message of the Resurrection of Christ in their lives.
“I urge Christians to remain committed to the service of God and humanity.
“ You should be determined to show effect I on, care and sympathy to all and sundry as demonstrated by Jesus Christ.
“As you came out pure and simple from this spiritual rejuvenation, you are expected to live an exemplary life of Jesus Christ,” he said.
