The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) said it would to distribute trash bags to churches and homes in the state during the festive season to ensure a clean environment.
The Managing Director, Mr Ola Oresanya said this in a statement signed by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Lukman Seriki.
Oresanya said that the decision to distribute the trash bags was informed by the anticipated 100 per cent increase in waste generation during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
He restated the agency’s commitment towards ensuring that this year’s celebration is marked in a clean atmosphere and implored the people to shun acts capable of making the environment dirty.
The LAWMA boss further urged motorists to exercise while driving to safeguard the lives of street sweepers and other service providers who would be very active during the yuletide.
While wishing residents “a dirt-free celebration’’, he urged them to contact the authority on its toll free lines 5577/07080601020 in case of any emergency.
He added that the customer care unit would be operational throughout the period of the holidays to address the needs of the public. (NAN)
