A landlord’s son, Quadri Shosanya, was yesterday charged with stabbing a tenant over electricity bill at an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. A resident of No. 30, Wahab Larinde St., Mafoluku in Oshodi, Shosanya, 39, is being tried for conspiracy, breach of peace and assault.
The prosecution told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 25 at his residence.
The accused and his brother, Adeleke Shosanya, still at large conspired to assault and stab their tenant, one Mr Sulemon Olarenwaju, over electricity bill, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde said.
“The accused and his brother beat up the complainant and stabbed him with a broken bottle on his head.
“When they saw blood gushing out, they took to their heels.” According to Olatunde, the complainant had requested for his
electricity bill from the landlord since he was using a separate metre.
“When the accused presented the bill it was discovered that the last time he paid was three years ago, whereas the landlord always collects money from him every month,’’ he told the courtroom.
The offences, Olatunde said, contravened Sections 166, 171 and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced a minimum of three years jail term on conviction.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum. The Magistrate, Mr. Akeem Fashola, adjourned the case till Oct.14 for mention. (NAN).
