Edo State government yesterday said all taxable property owners in the State will not be exempted from paying land use charge. It said middle income earners and other highly placed Nigerians in the State and the State governor must pay the disputed land use charge.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole dropped the hint during the inauguration of Edo State Internal Revenue service (EIRS) tax training institute yesterday in Benin City, where he explained that low income earners and residents living in suburb would be excluded.

He said his administration was determined to build a viable financial base for the overall development of the State.

He said when the Internally generated revenue which used to be N2 billion monthly dropped to N1.5 billion, the State government still did not engage Consultants to assist her on Revenue collection.

According to him, “the challenge of government is not just to collect taxes, but also to develop the State’’.

Executive Chairman of Edo State internal Revenue service, Chief Oseni Elama recalled government commitment to eradicate all forms of “notorious ticketing” through relevant agencies of government.

Oseni said the EIRS training institute was the first in the Federation. Our correspondent reported that some Nigerians have approached a High court sitting in Benin to seek an interlocutory injunction stopping the State government from enforcing the Land use charge already signed into law, pending the determination of the originating suit.
