- Lagosians are suffering – Fayose, Obanikoro
From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos
Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose and Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, at the weekend expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would clinch victory in Lagos at the 2015 general elections.
The duo while addressing a rally at the Freedom Park in Lagos said the people of the state are suffering under the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s government.
Those other party stalwarts at the rally includes the National Vice-Chairman, Chief Ishola Filani; state chairman, Captain Tunji Shelle; many guber aspirants of the party in the state. They took turns to state that the APC government has undermined Lagos voters in every manner.
They also declared that the PDP was prepared to win back the South-west from the opposition.
Fayose said “feelers reaching me indicate that there is suffering in the land. Lagosians, including market women and artisans, were complaining of hardship. They have created a wide gap between the masses and the elite. They are using power to oppress the ordinary people and the masses are crying, they want change.”
Fayose who noted that it was a privilege for any party to govern Lagos, said “with the resources in Lagos, people’s lives should be better than what we have now. But a party so opportune like APC has undermined Lagosians in every manner.”
Fayose, who re-stated that he was not contesting power with anybody, however said he was prapared to join hands with party leadership and mobilize support to ensure that the PDP formed the next government in Lagos.
While calling on the party leadership to shun imposition of candidate for coming election,Fayose however counseled governorship aspirants who were only interested in becoming commissioners to quit the race now and leave the race for more serious ones who are ready to garner more support for the PDP.
He also enjoined the aspirants to be prepared to support whoever among them finally emerges the standard bearer of the party in the state in order for PDP to win the 2015 governorship election.
Obanikoro, in his address, also declared that the PDP was poised to win back South-West from APC, just as he insisted that he never brought the Military to Ondo or Ekiti to harass or intimidate voters, but to ensure one man, one vote.
“The PDP won the bye-election in Ondo. The following day, they said I brought the Military. I didn’t. We ensured one man,one vote.
“In Ekiti also, we ensured that every means of rigging was blocked. PDP won election in all the 16 local governments in the state. You know that APC is not a sensitive government. They increased school fees on the eve of election.
