From Matthew Aramunde, Lagos
The newly appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 police Command, Onikan in Lagos state, Manko Umar has resumed duties.
Manko until his new appointment was the Lagos state Police Commissioner. He was among the Commissioners of Police promoted.
A new police commissioner is also being expected to oversee the operations and activities of the state Police Command.
This is coming on the heels of some senior police officers who were promoted and subsequently redeployed to their new beats nationwide.
An impeccable source at the command told People’s Daily on Tuesday, that despite the fact that Umar has resumed at Zone 2, he is still visibly seen at his former officer overseeing activities, giving directives and assigning operations to officers, a situation that translate that a police commissioner is yet to arrive the Command to assume duties.
“This is the reason why Umar is still shuttling between Zone 2 and the Command, since the Deputy Commissioners of Police and Assistant Commissioners of Police are presently in Abuja for an interview, preparatory to their promotions to various ranks”, our source maintained.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, Lelma Kolle confirmed the issue. He however assured that there is no cause for alarm, as there is standing order that all the police officers in Lagos are under red alert to tackle criminality in the state.
