From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos

The Lagos state government yesterday said that drivers in the state would begin to process and get their driving licenses in 2-hours.

The government also said that no fewer than 302,000 drivers licenses were fully processed in the state from 2011, adding that about 194, 000 applicants of the drivers license are yet to be processed out of the 511,0030 applicants captured since 2011.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Motor Vehicle Agency’s One-Stop Centre, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode, who made the disclosure, said with the new one-stop centre, the state MVAA has further raised its capacity to benchmark the best in the world in the provision of cutting-edge vehicle documentation service and products.

He said,” The building we are commissioning today will afford every Lagosian the opportunity to come into this building, fill their forms, access the internet, pay at the same point, visit the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), Vehicle Inspection Services, do their data capture and get their temporary driver’s license the same day, within maximum of 2 hours.

Also speaking, the state Governor, Babatunde Fashola described the centre as part of the strategies embarked upon by his administration to ensure that transportation is efficient in the state.

He said the administration has also, through the Lagos Traffic Law, reduced accidents and armed robberies in the state.
