Teams from all the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State will take part in the maiden edition of the President Cup Soccer competition. This was disclosed following a meeting held on Wednesday at the state Football Association’s office in Ilorin, the state capital.
Speaking at the meeting, Jimoh Oke, the FA Secretary said the competition is being organised to discover talents at the grassroots and to also productively engage the youths of the state. The meeting however resolved that all the LGs should organise mini competition and come out with the best 18 players and five officials each to compete in the finals in Ilorin.
Oke also said the committee that will organise the competition has been set up with coach Tunde Kazeem as Chairman and Jimoh Oke (Secretary). Others are Wale Obalola, coach Kehinde Jimoh and coach Alarape Atanda.
The tournament will begin from the local government level on 14th November, 2014 and the 16 teams will assemble in Ilorin, 1st December where the team that will finally represent the state will be selected for the zonal level in Lokoja on 4th January, 2015.
The final zonal games in different zones will provide the quarter-final and semi-final on the 13th and 17th January respectively while the final will take place on 19th January, 2015 in Abuja National Stadium. The winner of the competition will receive the sum of N5m while N2.5m for silver and N1.5 m for bronze medals.
