A former Special Adviser on Security matters to immediate past Governor of Kwara State,Dr Bukola Saraki, Mallam Yinka Aluko has emerged as the Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  for Kwara Central Senatorial district in the 2015 general election.

Similarly, Architect Lola Ashiru and a former House of Representatives member, Alhaji Yinusa Yahayah emerged as the PDP candidates from Kwara South and Kwara North Senatorial district respectively.

Aluku who polled 83 votes to defeat his closest rival Abdulrahaman Abdulrasaq, is to contest against his former boss, Senator Saraki who is the sole aspirant from the ruling APC for the position.

Announcing the result, chairman of the PDP panel for the primaries, Alhaji Mustapha Abdulwahab, declared Aluko as the party’s candidate for the Kwara central senatorial election having scored the required number of votes.

He said out of the total votes cast of 172, Aluko polled 83 votes, while Abdulrasaq scored 81 and Bilikisu Gambari scored 5 votes .He said 3 of the votes cast were invalid.

In Omuran, the venue of Kwara South Senatorial primaries, Architect Lola Ashiru was declared winner with 132 votes. He defeated other aspirants like Alhaji Bashir Oni who polled 16, Prince Sola Adedoyin who had 11votes and Alhaji Yekeen Alabi who got 64 votes.

In Kwara North, Hon. Yinusa Yahaya defeated Manzuma Mammah with 108 votes to 101.

The PDP primaries which were conducted amidst tight security were characterized by few controversies.

There was a mild drama during the accreditation of delegates for the voting as three members of PDP from Ilorin West Local Government claimed to be Council Chairmen that will identified delegates.

After so much controversies and tension generated by their positions, security agents, INEC officials and the party’s panel for the primaries have to disregard the three persons claiming to be chairmen and called the names of the delegates on the lists.

The security agencies cleared delegates from other local government that comprises the Kwara central senatorial district, namely Asa, Ilorin- East, Ilorin- south and Ilorin-West and local governments before attending to delegates from Ilorin West.
