From Olanrewaju Lawal, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command has banned all political parties processions and rallies in the state.

The Command, through its Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) ASP Ajayi Okansanmi in a statement yesterday, said only eligible electorates should be seen at the extended registration of voters card registration.

It could be recalled that INEC had extended collection of PCV in 11 states including Kwara state. The Commission would now commence voters registration of eight local governments which include Asa, Ekiti, Ilorin South, Ilorin East, Irepodun, Isin, Moro and Offa local governments areas.

The Police stated that INEC would commence the exercise from 20/08/2014 to 25/08/2014.

“Therefore, only eligible Nigerians that have not yet registered are supposed to be seen in various centres of registration designated by INEC. Besides, only INEC officials, their ad hoc staff and security agents are the only people authorized to be there.

“Political parties, their supporters and party agents are warned to steer clear of registration centres. Registration centres are not places to be used for party politics.

“The Kwara State Police Command will not hesitate to deal with any person or group of people that will want to forment trouble at the various registration centres.
