Wards Congress held by Kwara state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded large turn out of party members who trooped out to elect their war executives.
This reporter who monitored the Congress within Ilorin observed that majority of the participants were women and youths and each centre was secured by heavy security men including State Security Officers (SSS).
At Ajikobi Ward, hundreds of PDP members were seen being screened before they could be allowed to enter the Congress premises, Ansaru Islam Primary school, Okekere at about 10am while party cards were adopted as a ticket for entrance.
Similarly, at Okelele area, many PDP members were seen waiting for the commencement of the Congress which was believed to be done through election.
While speaking with Journalists, the Acting Chairman of Ajikobi Ward, Alhaji Soliu Adebayo Ahmed, described the large turn out of the PDP members as a testimony that the party was fully on ground.
He noted that though the area is the home base of Late Dr Olusola Saraki, and Professor Shuiab Oba Abdulraheem,Chairman Federal Character Commission, he insisted that the people of the area would vote for PDP in the forthcoming general elections.
The PDP Chieftain added that the party had decided to go through election instead of consensus noting that democracy could only survive if leaders were elected by the people and not through dictatorship.
