Members of Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria (MAN),Kwara state branch, have embarked on indefinite strike over alleged irregularities on appointment of Magistrates.

The association has also petitioned the state Judicial Service Commission over the appointments of four magistrates in 2012, now slated for promotion to senior magistrates which they described as promoting mediocrity at the expense of merit.

The association, in a document made available to journalists in Ilorin, signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Messrs Kudirat Yahaya and Oluwatosin Adeniyi respectively said the industrial action was embarked upon because of the refusal of the state judicial service commission’s to address their demands since January.

The concerned four Magistrates whom the association are protested against are; Ahmed Maryam Belgore, Baraje Abdulkadir Bilqis, Haruna Danladi Mohammed and Shafi Lukman.

The association demands that “the appointment of the four magistrates mentioned above be reversed to Magistrates Grade II in consonant with the rules and convention; “that the promotion of Ahmed M.B and Baraje A.B to senior Magistrates II be reversed:, and that the selective promotion of Magistrates Wahab Saka and Bayo Gegele should be deferred until July 2014 when the set will be due”.

” The association gave the commission a fourteen days ultimatum within which to address these grievances which expired and also embarked on three days warning strike which had also expired.
